Free exhibition of props, scripts, equipment and personal items from the Stanley Kubrick Film Archives at Bonhams, ahead of its auction.
A free exhibition dedicated to Stanley Kubrick is coming to Bonhams on New Bond Street, running from 18 January to 3 February 2027. It's a preview of the auction of the Stanley Kubrick Film Archives collection, so the things on display are the same ones that will eventually go under the hammer.
What you'll see are props, scripts, equipment and personal possessions from those archives. Among them are Kubrick's own director's chair and the costumes worn by the creepy twins from The Shining. The collection was built up at Kubrick's home in Hertfordshire, which served as a makeshift studio for some of his most famous sets: the Vietnam battlefields for Full Metal Jacket, the orbiting space station for 2001: A Space Odyssey and the War Room from Dr Strangelove all took shape there. Seeing the actual items from those films in one room gives a good sense of how much of his world was built right in his own house.
