Self-guided audio walking tour through Spitalfields that traces three centuries of newcomers across 14 landmarks, narrated via the AudaTours app.
Spitalfields Newcomers is a self-guided audio walking tour that traces three centuries of newcomers through the same East End streets, starting at Kindertransport - The Arrival at 50 Liverpool St, London, EC2M 7PD. It's a route that cuts through the layers of the neighbourhood, following the people who've arrived here from all over the place and left their mark on the streets.
Along the way, you'll pass the silk weavers' houses of the Huguenots, Britain's oldest synagogue, and a chapel that became a synagogue and then a mosque. The tour also takes you past the markets, missions and galleries built by and for people who arrived with almost nothing. It's a good way to see how the area has changed hands over the centuries, with each new wave of arrivals adding their own layer to the place.
The walk covers 3.8 km (2.4 miles) across 14 landmarks, and at each stop, up to 35 minutes of professionally narrated audio play automatically. The whole thing is delivered via the AudaTours app, which turns the walk into a story with immersive, offline tours. Once you've downloaded it, you've got offline access, so you don't have to worry about your signal dropping as you move through the streets.

There's no in-person guide and no entry to the buildings along the way, so you take the walk entirely at your own pace. You can linger at the spots that catch your eye or keep moving if you're in a hurry. It's a self-guided experience, meaning you're in charge of when you start and how long you spend at each stop. The tour is £4.99.
