Landmark exhibition of over 200 works across art, fashion, architecture and design exploring the creativity and global influence of South Asia today.
South Asia Now: Fashion. Art. Design. opens at the V&A East Museum on Saturday 24 April 2027, and it's a big one. The exhibition brings together more than 200 works from across art, fashion, architecture and design, all coming from South Asia. It's not just a single medium or a narrow slice of the region, so you'll find everything from clothing and paintings to architectural models and design objects under one roof.
The scale is the first thing that stands out: over 200 works is a lot of ground to cover, and they're spread across four distinct fields. Art, fashion, architecture and design aren't usually grouped together like this, so you get to see how they overlap. A piece of clothing might sit alongside a building plan or a painting, and the way they're curated lets you trace the threads that run between them. It's as much about the conversation between these different disciplines as it is about the individual pieces.
What the exhibition is really looking at is the creativity and innovation coming out of South Asia today. It's not a retrospective of the past; it's about what's happening right now. The curators describe it as a landmark show that explores the global influence emerging from the region, so you'll see work that's rooted in South Asia but speaking to a much wider audience. It's a chance to see the region's current creative output on a scale that's rarely gathered in one place.
