Exhibition of contemporary art from Asia, Australia and the Pacific, with a focus on First Nations perspectives, at the V&A South Kensington.
Rising Voices: Contemporary Art from Asia, Australia and the Pacific is open at the V&A South Kensington until Sunday 10 January 2027, in the Porter Gallery. It's a collaboration between the V&A and the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) in Brisbane, and it opens up the creative landscape of the Asia Pacific region with a particular focus on First Nations perspectives.
The exhibition draws on the legacy of the Asia Pacific Triennial, which has spent more than three decades championing the dialogue between the local and the international. It's curated by Tarun Nagesh, QAGOMA's Curatorial Manager of Asian and Pacific Art, and it brings together rare works by more than 40 pioneering creatives. Among them are porcelain pieces from the Kenneth and Yasuko Myer Collection of Contemporary Asian Art and the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation Collection.
Nagesh has arranged the show across an introduction and three thematic sections. Re-Visioning History features artists responding to political conditions like migration and social upheaval. Enduring Knowledge is devoted to artistic heritage and local materials. Evolving Faith looks at how spirituality and systems of faith are expressed today. Together they cover a wide stretch of the region, from the political to the spiritual.
