Day of talks by experts on the music and life of Edward Elgar, with British Library staff presenting Elgar manuscripts and letters, and a live performance of his Part-Songs.
Reimagining Edward Elgar: Past, Present and Future takes over the British Library on Friday 23 October, a full day dedicated to the music and life of the British composer. It's not just a single talk; it's a whole day's programme that runs from 10:00 to 17:00, with the doors opening at 9:30, so you can settle in for the long haul.
Throughout the day, experts will be sharing the latest insights into Elgar and the world he moved in, while British Library staff bring out recent acquisitions of his manuscripts and letters. If you've ever wondered what the actual pages he wrote on look like, this is your chance to see them. The whole thing is hosted in collaboration with the Elgar Society, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2026, so the timing isn't accidental.
And there's a live performance to cap it off: the day ends with Elgar Part-Songs performed by the Choral Voices of Classica Live. It's a nice way to shift from talking about the music to actually hearing it.
