A fun cyclo-cross event for all ages and categories, featuring a course with a pumpkin patch, foggy forest and hurdles, with seasonal fancy dress encouraged.
Rapha Muddy Hell returns to Herne Hill Velodrome on Saturday 7 November, from 15:00 to 21:00. It's a cyclo-cross event for all ages and categories, billed as 'the muddiest race of the year', and it leans on fun as much as on competition. The day is supported by Rapha UK.
It takes its lead from the accessible approach of British Cycling's Go-Ride, putting enjoyment and participation at the heart of the racing and welcoming riders who are far from experts. Seasonal fancy dress is encouraged and rewarded, so you're as welcome in a costume as you are in your kit. The course itself is built around the season: a pumpkin patch, a foggy forest and hair-raising hurdles, with designated fan zones and food and drink on hand for those watching from the sidelines.

One of the things that sets it apart is when the racing actually happens. While the earlier categories run in the daylight, all the adult racing takes place under lights in the dark, which changes the whole feel of the event. It's a full day of racing that runs from mid-afternoon into the evening, with the Herne Hill Velodrome in South East London as the home for the whole thing. If you're looking for a way to keep riding through the winter, this is one of the more social ways to do it.
