One-man show in which author Rob Eastaway explores how numbers shaped Shakespeare's world and his work.
Rob Eastaway brings his one-man show Much Ado about Numbers to The Club for Actors and Artists in Covent Garden on Thursday 19 November, from 7 pm to 8 pm. It's an hour-long look at how numbers shaped Shakespeare's world and his work, and Eastaway, an award-winning author, carries the whole thing himself on stage.
He works his way through the Bard's plays to show how the Tudors calculated, why dice games were such a gamble, and why Shakespeare made so much ado about nothing. It's a lively, accessible hour that keeps things moving, and it's full of the kind of surprises that make a one-man show work. The whole thing celebrates a Renaissance world where every subject was connected and learning was full of wonder, rather than the separate boxes we put things in now.
It's already picked up some strong praise. Patrick Spottiswoode, founder of Shakespeare's Globe Education, called it "brilliantly informative, witty and engaging", and The Washington Post described the book it's based on as "a quirky little book [that] will multiply the fun for any general reader interested in adding to their understanding of Shakespeare".
