Chelsea Walker's stylish staging of Shakespeare's romantic comedy, with Beatrice and Benedick at its centre, at Shakespeare's Globe.
Much Ado About Nothing opens at Shakespeare's Globe on Saturday 17 October, with the run continuing through to Saturday 24 October. It's one of Shakespeare's sharpest romantic comedies, and this production is directed by Chelsea Walker.
The play is set in a sun-soaked world of reputation and status, where image is everything and late-night parties blur into dawn. At the centre are Beatrice, who's sworn off men, and Benedick, whose magnetic attraction to one another drives the plot. Beneath the polished surface of Messina, secrets slip, gossip runs wild, and reputations hang by a thread. It's been described as stylish, full of humour, and a 'sure summer blockbuster'. A heads-up: the staging contains scenes of sexual content and drug use.
Beatrice is played by Pippa Nixon and Benedick by Ken Nwosu. The rest of the cast includes Joseph Potter as Don John, Richard Katz as Dogberry, Jonathan McGuinness as Leonato, Adam Long as Don Pedro, Joshua John as Claudio, Assa Kanouté as Hero, Marlowe Chan-Reeves as Borachio, Geraldine Alexander as Sister Matilda, and Matilda Bailes as Margaret.
