Tony-nominated West End musical adapted from Baz Luhrmann's 2001 film, with a pop score by Madonna, P!nk and Elton John, at the Piccadilly Theatre.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is running at the Piccadilly Theatre in London's West End, the stage adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's 2001 Oscar-winning film starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. It takes the movie's world and puts it on stage: 1899 Montmartre, where the writer Christian falls for Satine, the star of the Moulin Rouge, while the club's owner Harold Zidler and the Duke of Monroth plot around them. The stage version keeps the film's pop-fuelled score, with tracks by Madonna, P!nk and Elton John, and adds new songs to the mix.
Derek McLane's set brings an elephant and a windmill inside, and the theatre's exterior now sports a large red windmill. The production has won five Drama Desk Awards and 11 Outer Critics Circle Awards, and earned 14 Tony nominations; director Alex Timbers won the 2020 Tony for Best Direction of a Musical. Age guidance is 12+, with strictly no under-5s.
