A night of performance poetry from some of the UK's most radical voices, presented by Apples and Snakes.
More Fire comes to Woolwich Works on Thursday 5 November, a night of performance poetry put on by Apples and Snakes, the UK's national organisation for the form. It's billed as a transformative spotlight on the origins, the present and the future of performance poetry, and the line-up brings together some of the most radical voices in the scene.
The draw here is the gathering itself. Many of the poets on the bill have never shared a stage before, so it's a first-time meeting of voices that usually run in separate circles. Apples and Snakes describe the night as a community of truth tellers and rebels passing the flame, and the title More Fire fits that image of something being handed from one person to the next.
Because it's performance poetry, the focus is on the delivery as much as the writing. These are poets who write for the stage, where the voice and the presence matter as much as the words on the page. With the night looking at the origins, the present and the future of the art form, you'll likely hear a range of styles and generations on the same bill, rather than just one particular school of poetry.
