Volunteer-led monthly guided tour of the boarding house where Vincent van Gogh lived in Brixton, covering his stay, the building's Victorian history and its artefacts.
Van Gogh House runs guided tours of the museum at 87 Hackford Road, the South London boarding house where a young Vincent van Gogh lived from 1873 to 1874. It's a non-profit contemporary arts organisation, and the tours are led by volunteers. They cover Van Gogh's brief stay, the building's Victorian architecture and history, and artefacts uncovered during a recent renovation and conservation, alongside a glimpse at how ordinary people lived in Victorian London.
Established in 2019 as a site of creative production, the house works as more than a time capsule of the artist's year in Brixton. It hosts exhibitions, residencies and events that support contemporary artists to make a living in their lifetime, and the building also serves as an artist-in-residence space.
