Free exhibition of recent acquisitions from the V&A's contemporary metalwork collection, with work by metalsmiths from around the world.
Metalworking Now opens at V&A South Kensington on Saturday 17 October, and it's a straight show in Gallery 66, so you can just wander in and take your time with it. It runs through to Thursday 11 March 2027, which gives you plenty of room to fit it in whenever suits.
The exhibition brings together recent acquisition highlights from the V&A's contemporary metalwork collection, with work by metalsmiths from across the world that the museum has been collecting since 2010. That's a good few years of acquisitions to see in one go. One of the pieces on display is the Golden Moment Teapot, an anodised aluminium teapot hand-raised by Rajesh Gogna in 2024.
That's the kind of thing the whole show is built around: contemporary makers continuing a long tradition of experimentation across a wide range of metals. It's not just about one style or one material, but how different smiths are working with metal today. Because it's a straight show in Gallery 66, you'll find the pieces together in one space rather than scattered across the museum.
