Walkaround wine tasting of Alsace wines with the producers and their representatives at The Thomas Lord Suite in Lord's Cricket Ground.
The Wine Society is bringing the growers of Alsace to Lord's Cricket Ground on Monday 7 December, for a walkaround tasting that runs from 6:00 to 8:30 pm in the Thomas Lord Suite. It's one of those evenings where you move at your own pace, working your way through the room rather than sitting through a structured presentation.
Alsace is one of France's most distinctive wine regions, tucked against the Vosges Mountains, and the tasting is built around its range of styles. You'll find vibrant rieslings, refreshing crémants, textured pinot blancs, aromatic gewürztraminer, and the increasingly exciting pinot noirs that the region has been producing. It's a broad spread, so you can start with the crisp whites and work your way through to the reds.
What sets this one apart from a standard tasting is that the growers and their representatives are there pouring throughout the night. In Alsace, the grower's personality and philosophy really shape the wine, so having the people behind the bottles on hand means you can ask questions and hear the stories that don't make it onto the label. It's a walkaround format, so you can spend as much or as little time at each station as you like, and the whole thing is designed to be sociable rather than formal.
