Stand-up show by Singapore-raised comic Lin Jin Hao about longing for home while settling into London.
Lin Jin Hao brings Falling From a Moon to Soho Theatre from 28 October to 7 November, with nightly performances throughout the run. It's the second show from the Singapore-raised comic, and it's a bit of a departure from the standard stand-up set.
Falling From a Moon is an atmosphere-heavy, nostalgia-suffused piece of comedy that cuts between the mythic and the mundane, the arty and the gags. It follows Hao as he settles into an unfamiliar London while longing for home, and the two moods run side by side rather than one giving way to the other. The reviewer described it as quite a different style of comedy, funny as well as the more out-there stuff, and noted that the show earned Hao an unexpected but not unwelcome place on the Edinburgh Comedy Award shortlist at that year's Fringe.
It's a solo run, so it's just Hao on stage for the full hour. If you're used to a fast-paced string of punchlines, this one sits in a different gear — it's as much about the mood and the storytelling as it is about the laughs. The run lasts around an hour, and with nightly shows from the 28th through to the 7th, there's plenty of choice for when to catch it.
