The Regent's Park production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's rock opera, with Sam Ryder as Jesus and guest stars Matt Bomer, Rob Brydon and Reece Shearsmith as King Herod.
Jesus Christ Superstar is running at Theatre Royal Drury Lane from 16 October 2026 to 9 January 2027. It's the rock opera Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote about the final days of Jesus's life, told from the perspective of Judas. You'll recognise the score from songs like 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', 'Gethsemane' and the title track, 'Superstar'.
This particular production comes from Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, where it was directed by Tim Sheader. It's the same creative team behind the show's 2016 production, with choreography by Olivier Award-winner Drew McOnie and design by Tony and Olivier Award-winner Tom Scutt. It transferred to the West End after a record-breaking summer season at The London Palladium, where demand broke all-time box office records.
Sam Ryder takes the lead as Jesus, his West End debut. He's a BRIT and Emmy-nominated singer who reached the Eurovision final with 'Space Man', and he first brought this role to the public with a live performance of 'Gethsemane' on Britain's Got Talent. He's joined by Desmonda Cathabel as Mary Magdalene, David Thaxton as Pontius Pilate, Bob Harms as Caiaphas, Matty J as Annas and Phil King as Peter. The role of King Herod is shared by a rotating cast of guest stars: Matt Bomer (16-31 Oct), Rob Brydon (2-7 Nov), Reece Shearsmith (9-14 Nov), Bob The Drag Queen (16-21 Nov), Michael Ball (23 Nov-5 Dec), Simon Russell Beale (7-12 Dec), Omid Djalili (14-19 Dec) and Layton Williams (21 Dec-2 Jan).
