Halloween UV life drawing session where models covered in reactive body paint are drawn with neon materials under black light, suitable for over-18s.
Neon Naked is taking over the Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club on Saturday 31 October for a Halloween special, and if you've never come across it, it's not your usual life drawing class. The whole room is flooded with black light, the models are covered in reactive body paints, and you draw with neon materials, so the session becomes an experiment in light, colour and texture. Time Out once described it as a session where the models become 'living sculptures', which gives you a decent idea of the vibe: the focus is as much on the glow as it is on the pose.
This particular one leans into the date, with the models playing the undead under the UV light. It's a beginner-friendly format, so you don't need to be an artist to get involved, and all the art supplies are provided on the day. It's for over-18s.
The concept comes from Jylle Navarro, a former fashion designer turned artist with roots in experimental knitwear and creative direction. She completed an MA in Art and Science at Central Saint Martins, specialising in light-reactive materials, immersive installations and conceptual performances, and that's the background that informs the whole thing. Neon Naked has been running for more than nine years and over 1,000 classes, and it now goes weekly across several London locations.
