Halloween trail with costumed ghosts wandering the Tower of London, centred on the Haunted Forge, for monsters and grown-ups.
Halloween at the Tower of London runs from 24 October to 1 November 2026, with the Tower leaning into its darker reputation for the half-term break. It's a site that's spent centuries as a royal palace, a fortress and a notorious prison, and the ghosts they're bringing out this year come from that long history. You'll find a poet, a pirate, a queen, an astronomer and even a bear, all in theatrical costume and ghoulish make-up.
The day centres on the Haunted Forge, where the spirits gather three times daily when the furnace burns hottest and the clang of metal peaks. The rest of the time they wander the fortress for you to hunt, following clues in the windows and listening for a distant roar. The trail also takes you to the Enchanted Wishing Well and the Raven's Observatory, so it's a good excuse to see parts of the Tower you might otherwise walk past.
Historic Royal Palaces pitches it to delight rather than fright, so if you've got nervous children with you, they can watch from a distance without getting too close to the action. One thing to keep in mind: it's a Halloween outing where only the hosts get to dress up. Visitors in costume are refused entry, so leave the fancy dress at home.
