Self-guided audio walking tour of Hackney through the AudaTours app, covering nine landmarks from Tudor times to the music hall era.
Hackney: Tudor to Music Hall kicks off at Sutton House on Friday 16 October, a self-guided audio walking tour that takes you through the East End's layers from the Tudor era right through to the music hall days. It's an hour-long loop covering about 2.7km and nine landmarks, and since it's self-guided, you can take it at your own pace rather than following a group.
The route starts in the village where Tudor courtiers built country houses on the edge of London. Along the way, you'll come across Sutton House itself, one of the oldest houses in East London, and a lonely medieval church tower. There's also the chapel where a famous scientist preached after a mob burned his home, and the music hall where Charlie Chaplin and Marie Lloyd once performed. The tour is delivered through the free AudaTours app, with up to 23 minutes of narration to guide you through the history of each spot.

Because it's an audio tour, there's no in-person guide, and it doesn't include entry to any of the buildings or sites along the route — you'll be seeing them from the street. It's a good one for a weekday morning or lunch break if you're around the area. The tour costs £3.99, and it starts at Sutton House, London E9 6JQ.
