Guildhall School of Music and Drama production of Nina Raine's drama 'Tiger Country', directed by Ashley Zhangazha, about doctors and nurses in a London hospital.
Guildhall School is putting on Tiger Country at the Milton Court Studio Theatre from Monday 19 to Saturday 24 October, with the 19th as a preview. It's Nina Raine's drama about doctors and nurses in a busy London hospital, directed by Guildhall alumnus Ashley Zhangazha.
The play follows the staff as their professionalism, prejudice, turbulent romances, ambition and failure collide in a narrative about a crumbling health service. It's a searingly honest look at the people working inside the system, and the personal frictions that bubble up when the pressure is on. The Guardian called it 'a remarkable snapshot of the health service'.
Zhangazha isn't a stranger to the piece, either. Tiger Country premiered at Hampstead Theatre in 2011 and was revived there in 2014 after a sell-out run, so this production brings it back to the stage with a director who knows the material. It's a Guildhall production, and Zhangazha himself is a former student of the school, which adds a nice full-circle touch to the whole thing.
