Guided archaeological walk led by Dr Andrew Lane from the Roman Amphitheatre along the Roman city wall to the remains of the Roman Fort Gate.
Dr Andrew Lane is leading a guided tour of Roman London on Saturday 21 November, starting at London's Roman Amphitheatre in Guildhall Yard, EC2V 5AE. It's called Gladiators to centurions, uncovering the archaeology of north-west Londinium, and it takes you through some of the city's best-preserved Roman remains.
The walk starts at the amphitheatre, follows a stretch of the Roman city wall, and finishes at the remains of the Roman Fort Gateโa site that doesn't usually get much footfall. It's a good way to see how the different parts of the old city fit together, from the public spectacle of the arena to the defensive line of the wall and the military presence of the fort.
Dr Lane is an archaeologist, and this isn't his only Roman walk. He also guides the standard Roman Amphitheatre tour and Leisure in Roman London, which pairs the amphitheatre with the Billingsgate Bath House. If you've done either of those, this one covers different ground, and if you haven't, it's a solid place to start. The route is led by someone who actually works in the field, so you'll get the history straight from the source rather than a script.

It's a Saturday morning in the City, so it's a decent excuse to get out and see a side of London that usually stays hidden under the pavement. The tour kicks off at the Roman Amphitheatre in Guildhall Yard, EC2V 5AE, on 21 November.
