Genesis Owusu plays Electric Brixton on Saturday 28 November, with support from MAHA. The show is presented by Parallel Lines Promotions.
Owusu is a Ghanaian-Australian artist, born Kofi Owusu-Ansah in Canberra, who has spent the last five years rising as one of the most exciting names of his generation. His back-to-back albums, Smiling with No Teeth (2021) and Struggler (2023), were met with critical acclaim and cemented him as one of the most distinct and innovative artists to come out of the Australian scene, earning him multiple ARIA and AIR Awards including Album of the Year. He's known for a genre-fluid blend of hip hop, funk, punk and soul, for bold storytelling and for his live performances.
He was set to release a third album, REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE, a 14-track record he described as a reflection on the political, social and economic fires of contemporary society, and he has called himself 'a student of Nina Simone'.
