Research talk by Geordie Williamson from the University of Sydney on intersection homology over rings, within the Geometry, Algebra, and Theoretical Physics (GATP) seminar series.
Geordie Williamson is visiting from the University of Sydney to give a talk at the Huxley Building on Tuesday 20 October, from 11:00 to 12:30. He'll be presenting Intersection homology over rings, and the session is open to everyone.
The talk is part of the Geometry, Algebra, and Theoretical Physics (GATP) seminar series, which is run jointly by Imperial's Department of Mathematics and its Theoretical Physics group. The whole point of the series is to bring the two departments together and talk about research that interests both mathematicians and physicists, so it's a cross-departmental thing rather than something tucked away in one corner of the campus.
One of the main areas the series focuses on is symplectic resolutions of singularities. It's a unifying theme that crops up in the moduli spaces of physical supersymmetric gauge theories, and also in algebraic geometry and representation theory — including quiver varieties, Coulomb branches, symplectic leaves, and geometric representation theory. The talks are kept accessible to both communities, and recordings of previous seminars are available if you want to catch up on what's come before.

It's a free session, and the talk runs from 11:00 to 12:30 in Huxley 658, in the Huxley Building on the South Kensington Campus. The session is open to all, so you don't need to be a mathematician or a physicist to drop in.
