Free triennial exhibition of new works by current research students and alumni of The King's Foundation School of Traditional Arts.
The Garrison Chapel in Chelsea is hosting From Darkness to Light, From Light to Darkness, an exhibition by current students and alumni of The King's Foundation School of Traditional Arts. It runs from 2 to 21 October, and it's the school's triennial show, so it's been three years since the last one.
The work comes from PhD and MPhil students whose research looks at great and endangered artistic traditions from the past and present, drawing on practices from across the world and from a variety of histories and faiths. They've used that research to make new pieces that connect contemporary experience to the images, metaphors and psyches they've studied in traditional arts, and each artist explains how they approach making using traditional methods. The whole thing is framed as a reminder that craft and making by hand still matter in an age of AI image fakery and digital media. After it closes at the Chapel, the artworks are to travel to China for an exhibition there.
