UK premiere of Emanuel Gat's choreographic work set to Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5, with twelve dancers.
Emanuel Gat Dance bring Five Days in the Sun to Sadler's Wells Theatre on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 November, both nights at 7:30 pm. It's the UK premiere of choreographer Emanuel Gat's latest work, which first opened on 21 June 2026 at the OpΓ©ra Berlioz - Le Corum during Festival Montpellier Danse. The piece runs an hour and ten minutes without an interval, so it's a single, unbroken stretch of dance.
The work is set to Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5, a piece Mahler wrote after a near-death experience and his whirlwind romance with Alma Schindler. Mahler was an Austrian-Bohemian composer and conductor who led houses like the Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera, and he left behind symphonies that are still counted among the most powerful of the 20th century. Gat's choreography builds around that music, moving through five acts and twelve dancers, and contrasting solemnity with ecstasy as the symphony unfolds.
Beyond the music, there's a fair bit to look at on stage. Costumes are by Polish designer Inez Vicher, and the lighting follows its own complex storyline throughout the piece. It also marks a new chapter for the company: a fresh group of twelve dancers and collaborators from around the world who live and work in Marseille. So the ensemble you'll see on stage is a new one, rather than a long-standing troupe.
