Stage adaptation of the cult 80s film with a full live band, 'sensationally sexy' choreography and a cast of more than 40 performers.
Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story on Stage opens at the Prince Edward Theatre on 19 January 2027, for a limited 15-week season that runs through to 24 April. It's the stage adaptation of the 80s cult film, written by Eleanor Bergstein and produced by Karl Sydow in association with Lionsgate and Magic Hour Productions. The production brings together a cast of more than 40 performers, with the film's entire soundtrack played by a full live band and choreography that stays true to the original's dance style.
It's the same story you know: Baby and Johnny, two fiercely independent young spirits from different worlds, and the hits that go with it. You'll hear 'Hungry Eyes', 'Hey! Baby', 'Do You Love Me?' and '(I've Had) The Time Of My Life' played live rather than as a recording. The Observer called it 'the biggest live theatre sensation of all time' and the Sunday Mirror described it as 'a phenomenon'.
This particular run has a bit of a backstory. It was originally due to open this October at the Capital Theatre, a new purpose-built venue inside Westfield in Shepherd's Bush, but planning permission delays pushed the theatre's opening back, which sent the show to the West End instead. It's no stranger to the city, though: it's already had five West End runs and ten years of touring the UK, as well as sold-out shows internationally from South Africa to Hong Kong.
