The V&A's second Digital Art Season, a free season of displays, talks and special events exploring the boundaries between human and machine agency.
Digital Art Season: On Agency is running at V&A South Kensington through to Thursday 3 December, the museum's second dedicated digital art season. This one centres on the fluid boundaries between human and machine agency, and it pulls together displays, talks and special events that look at where art, technology and creativity overlap.
It's built around a single question: where does the agency of an artwork reside when it exists within digital systems? The season looks at art worlds and algorithmic feeds, and how pieces are shaped by the systems that make, circulate and perceive them. To do that, the V&A is drawing on its own collection and its National Art Library, so you'll see things from the museum's permanent holdings alongside new additions.
There's a fair bit to pick from beyond the displays. The National Art Library is hosting a series of digital art talks, with one on 1 September and another on 3 November. There was also a digital art screening back in September, so if you missed that, the talks are the main way to hear people talk through these ideas in person. The whole thing feeds into the museum's wider digital activity, including Digital Design Weekend, a free digital art and design festival.
