A 90-minute haunted tour of the Queen's House led by a museum storyteller, with exclusive access to the Loggia afterwards.
The Queen's House in Greenwich is opening its doors after hours for a series of dark history and haunted tours on Friday 30 October and Sunday 1 November. When the galleries fall quiet and the general public has gone home, one of the museum's storytellers takes you through some of the house's most intriguing spaces. The tour focuses on the tales of tragedy, mystery and unexplained happenings that have lingered here for centuries: the stories hiding behind the paintings, the people who once walked these rooms, and the strange encounters that are still talked about today.
The house itself is one of Greenwich's hidden gems. Completed in 1635 for Queen Henrietta Maria as a 'House of Delight' and designed by Inigo Jones, it's one of the most important buildings in British architectural history and the country's first consciously classical house. Inside, it still holds the Armada Portrait of Elizabeth I, the Solebay Tapestry and Richard Wright's Great Hall ceiling. The tour works its way through these spaces, so you'll see the art and the architecture as part of the storytelling.
Once the tour finishes, there's a bit of a bonus: exclusive access to the Loggia, a balcony usually closed to the public, where you can have a drink and look out over Greenwich Park under the night sky. It's a nice way to wind down after the darker side of the house.
