The City Funk Orchestra plays soul and funk with two UK soul singers, Imaani and Angelo Starr, at Soul Mama Stratford.
The City Funk Orchestra are playing Soul Mama Stratford on Friday 30 October, with Imaani and Angelo Starr sharing the front. It's a full band night, and the set will run from 6:30pm through to 11:00pm.
If you're not familiar with the CFO, they're a London funk and soul dance band that works the golden age of the 70s, 80s and 90s alongside their own original material. They've spent years as a specialist opening act for the Average White Band and Kid Creole and the Coconuts, and they headlined the Saturday Love soul music festival in 2025. They've also played Tokyo's Blue Note and the Montreux Jazz Festival, so they're well used to a big stage.
For this date, they've got two of the UK's best soul singers on the bill. Imaani is a powerhouse British soul singer and a longtime lead vocalist with Incognito, who also backed Chaka Khan and represented the UK in the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest. She's recorded more than a dozen Incognito albums as well as her own solo debut, Standing Tall. Joining her is Angelo Starr, brother of soul legend Edwin Starr. Together they'll be backed by Mary Pearce, Nial Tompkins on guitar, Carl Hudson on keyboards, Matt Pegg on bass and Geoff Dunn on drums.
