A talk on what writers can learn from Agatha Christie, with Jan Carson, Bobby Seagull, Shrabani Basu and Jeremy Vine, linked to the British Library's Christie exhibition.
Christie: The Writer's Writer is at the Pigott Theatre in the British Library on Monday 30 November, from 19:00 to 20:30, with doors opening at 18:00. It's part of the library's Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery exhibition, which they've put together with Agatha Christie Limited and The Christie Archive Trust.
The whole thing is built around one question: what can writers actually learn from Agatha Christie? She pioneered the crime novel, and the talk looks at how her influence reaches well beyond that. The panel will draw on her Golden Age narratives, her subversive portraits of British life, and the way she handled clues, comedy and problem-solving. The speakers weigh the serious business of being a writer alongside the business of murder, so it's as much about the craft of writing as it is about the mysteries themselves.
On the panel are Jan Carson, Bobby Seagull, Shrabani Basu and Jeremy Vine. It's a broad mix of voices to pick apart how Christie put her books together, and the session is supported by Great Western Railway.
