Over-18s roots reggae night with Chezidek, 'The Herbalist', and Irie Ites at The Jazz Cafe.
Chezidek plays The Jazz Cafe on Monday 26 October, with Irie Ites on the band. He's known as 'The Herbalist', a name that points to the roots reggae he's spent his career in. He built his reputation on the sound systems of St Ann's in Jamaica, and he draws on the legacy of fellow natives Marcus Garvey, Burning Spear and Bob Marley.
He first made his mark as a soulful voice in roots reggae with tracks like 'All My Life' and 'Call Pon Dem' — the latter became a cult favourite after landing in GTA IV. Two decades on, he's still one of the genre's torchbearers: conscious, uncompromising and rooted in where he started, spreading a message of love, unity and social justice through wordplay.
