Candlelight: Tribute to Michael Jackson

A string quartet is taking on Michael Jackson at The Great Hall - Barts North Wing, starting on Saturday 7 November. It's part of the Candlelight series, which they describe as multi-sensory musical journeys played under the glow of countless flickering candles. This is an independent tribute, not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Michael Jackson, his estate or his official representatives.

The setlist runs through the hits from across his career. You'll hear 'I Want You Back', 'Rock With You', 'Human Nature', 'Billie Jean', 'Say Say Say', 'We Are the World', 'Man in the Mirror', 'Smooth Criminal', 'Black or White', 'Heal the World', 'Remember the Time', 'The Way You Make Me Feel', 'Earth Song', 'They Don't Really Care About Us' and 'Thriller'. The whole thing lasts about an hour.

The venue is as much a part of the evening as the music. The Great Hall is a Grade I listed 18th-century room by James Gibbs, with restored interiors, ornate plasterwork and the Hogarth Stair. It holds 400 people and sits within one of the UK's oldest working hospital sites; its historic spaces only reopened to the public in October 2025. The hall is fully wheelchair accessible, and seats are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis within each zone.

There are plenty of dates to choose from. On 7 November, there are shows at 19:00 and 21:00. After that, it's 4 December at 21:00, 18 December at 21:00, and 20 December with both 19:00 and 21:00 options. It runs into the new year too, with dates on 22, 24 and 27 January 2027. Doors open 45 minutes before each show, and tickets start from £21.00. It's open to guests aged eight and over, and under-sixteens must be accompanied by an adult.
