American jazz vocalist Ashley Pezzotti celebrates Ella Fitzgerald with swing and scat singing, backed by a world-class ensemble, at the Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club.
Ashley Pezzotti is playing two nights at the Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 November, both as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival. She's an American jazz vocalist, composer and educator, and these two sets are a celebration of Ella Fitzgerald, built around swing and scat singing. She'll be backed by a world-class ensemble, so it's a full band night rather than a solo turn.
If you haven't come across her yet, Pezzotti is known for a rich, silky tone and a real handle on improvisation. Her work draws on her Dominican heritage, and she writes and performs original compositions in both English and Spanish. She's a graduate of the Frost School of Music and spent time in the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead programme at the Kennedy Center. Her 2019 debut album, We've Only Just Begun, caught the attention of Wynton Marsalis, which led to regular collaborations and recordings with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, including The Ever Fonky Lowdown, and performances alongside artists like Arturo Sandoval at Birdland and Dizzy's Club.

The Friday night is the earlier of the two: doors at 6:00pm, stage time 7:00pm. The Saturday is a later one: doors at 8:30pm, stage time 9:30pm. Tickets are £37.50 including fees, and the venue is the Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club, 140 Newington Butts, Kennington, London SE11 4RN.
