Matthew Warchus's festive production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, adapted by Jack Thorne, returns to The Old Vic for Christmas.
A Christmas Carol returns to The Old Vic from 10 November 2026 to 9 January 2027, with previews running from 10 to 23 November and off-peak performances from 1 to 9 January. It's Matthew Warchus's production of Charles Dickens' story, which has become a fixture of London's festive theatre since it first premiered in the winter of 2017. It's billed as the longest-running annual staging of the story, and it's come back to The Old Vic every year since.
Jack Thorne adapted it for the stage, and he's the same writer behind Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and His Dark Materials. The production has travelled well beyond London, too: it played on Broadway and won five Tony Awards, toured the United States, and played in Melbourne. Each run is built on mince pies, music and merriment, with live carolers, a towering feast and on-stage surprises. The Stage called it 'one of the best Christmas shows you'll ever see' and Time Out described it as 'still the most glittering bauble on London's Christmas stage'. Since its debut, it's raised over £1.9 million globally through audience donations.
