A free community drop-in with stalls, talks, and a film programme marking the 40th anniversary of Parting Glances, including screenings and a panel discussion.
Homotopia is hosting a World AIDS Day community drop-in at Central Library on Saturday 28 November, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It's a free day with stalls and talks, and the film programme is built around the 40th anniversary of Parting Glances (1986), which is widely regarded as one of the first films ever made about AIDS.
The screenings and the discussion are presented by Homotopia, Sahir, and queer film expert Gary Needham from COSME at the University of Liverpool. The day opens at 12:00 with Parting Glances at 40, a 90-minute screening that marks the film's four decades. That's followed at 2:00 by a panel discussion, and the afternoon closes at 3:00 with AIDS Diva: The Legend of Connie Norman, a 60-minute documentary about the trans AIDS activist Connie Norman. That final screening also honours the inauguration of the community group Trans Forward North West.
The drop-in is part of Homotopia Festival 2026, We Come Together, which runs from 17 October to 1 December. It's the UK's longest-running LGBTQIA+ arts and culture festival, and they've spent more than twenty years championing queer artists and stories. The day also sits alongside a vigil at Liverpool Parish Church on the same date.
