A powerful documentary theatre and dance piece by LUNG about the crisis facing prisons, based on the true story of HMP Woodhill.
LUNG bring Woodhill to Unity Theatre on Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 October, with both performances starting at 7:30pm. It's a documentary theatre and dance piece that looks at the crisis facing prisons, and it takes its title from HMP Woodhill, the prison at the heart of the story.
Woodhill is a true story told in the words of the families themselves. It follows three families whose sons died at HMP Woodhill and who spent years investigating what happened to them, only to discover something so haunting it turned their world upside down. The show doesn't shy away from the hard stuff: it deals with self-harm, suicide, addiction, racism, child loss and extreme violence. It's a heavy subject, and the production is recommended for 16+.
On stage, the storytelling is driven by gut-punching choreography and unflinching beats, and it's written by Matt Woodhead. LUNG originally developed the piece with The North Wall, and it's a multi-award-winning company that pushes the form of documentary theatre and dance. The show has picked up critical acclaim from The Guardian, WhatsOnStage, BroadwayWorld and the Evening Standard.
