The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra play Brahms' Symphony No. 3 and Piano Concerto No. 1 with pianist Vikingur Olafsson and conductor Domingo Hindoyan.
VĂkingur Ă“lafsson is back at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Sunday 29 November, performing with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Domingo Hindoyan. It's a double Brahms bill: the Symphony No. 3 and the Piano Concerto No. 1.
Ólafsson is an Icelandic pianist who's built a bit of a name for himself as one of the more innovative players of his generation. His style is often described as having a 'Nordic cool' to it—a glacial stillness that people compare to an Arctic sea breeze—and he's returning to Liverpool with his own distinctive reading of Brahms. The programme opens with the Symphony No. 3, which is built around the recurring motto 'free but happy' and a mood that's at once playful and dramatic. After that, the focus shifts to the Piano Concerto No. 1, with Ólafsson on piano and Hindoyan leading the orchestra.
