The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Domingo Hindoyan, plays a programme of Latino, Iberian and French dance music with Simon TrpÄeski at the piano.
Simon TrpÄeski and Domingo Hindoyan reunite at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Thursday 8 April 2027, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. It's a programme built around dance, and the first half takes you across South America: Venezuelan Reinaldo Moya's Polo Romanesco (2022), Mexican Arturo MĆ”rquez's Danzón No.8, and Argentinian Ginastera's Concierto Argentino. The three sit side by side, each drawing on the rhythms and melodies of its own region, and they're played as a set rather than separate pieces.
That South American run contrasts with the second half, which shifts to France. TrpÄeski takes the piano for Ravel's Piano Concerto in G, a work that brings in the rhythms and melodies of the Basque region and lets in a fair bit of jazz. The evening closes with Ravel's La Valse, which he described as his own take on the Viennese waltz. It starts mysteriously calm, descends into a nightmarish dance with death, and ends in an incredibly uplifting way.
At the centre of it all are the two names on the bill. Simon TrpÄeski is on piano, and Domingo Hindoyan is the Chief Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, so they're working together on a programme that's as much about the different regions it touches as it is about the music itself. The first half moves from Venezuela to Mexico to Argentina, and the second stays in France, with Ravel's Basque influences and his take on the waltz.
