Live gig by The Steve Pilgrim Band, with drummer Jim Sharrock and bassist Vicky Edwards, at The Quarry on Hardman Street.
The Steve Pilgrim Band play The Quarry on Friday 4 December, with the music starting at 19:30. It's a full band night: Steve Pilgrim on vocals and guitar, drummer Jim Sharrock (The Lightning Seeds, Jamie Webster), bassist Vicky Edwards (The Aeroplanes, John Head), trumpeter Martin Smith (Michael Head and TREB), and vocalist Rachael Jean Harris. That's a fair bit of Merseyside history on one stage, and the brass adds a layer that doesn't always make it into the studio recordings.
Steve Pilgrim first appeared as the drummer for The Stands, part of the same scene that gave us The Coral and The Zutons. He went on to play with John Power and Cast, before the call came from Paul Weller, whom he's written, recorded and toured with for the last 17 years. Across five studio albums he's built a body of work that draws on the melodic craftsmanship of 1960s and 70s singer-songwriters; critics have called him the music industry's best-kept secret and one of the great understated modern songsmiths. This is his own band, his own songs, and a line-up that brings in voices and instruments from across the city's music scene.
The Quarry is an independent 250-capacity DIY venue and bar run as a community interest company. It opened in September 2025 in a building that previously housed The Sink Club and The Magnet, and it's built around a purpose-built, acoustically treated basement live room with a d&b C-Series PA. Its community-led programming supports Liverpool's underground and LGBTQI+ scenes, mixing promoter-led gigs with club nights and featuring in the Liverpool International Jazz Festival fringe. It's a small room, so you'll be close to the stage.
