The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, with chief conductor Domingo Hindoyan and violinist Nemanja Radulović, plays Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, Dukas' 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice' and Roussel's Symphony No. 3.
Nemanja Radulović returns to the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Thursday 24 June 2027, performing with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under Chief Conductor Domingo Hindoyan. The Serbian violinist is a multi-award-winning performer, and this is his return to the Liverpool stage.
The night is built around Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, often called the most beloved concerto in the violin repertoire. Tchaikovsky wrote it on the shores of Lake Geneva while recovering from a period of personal turmoil, and it came together in just a few weeks during a sudden burst of inspiration. It's the centrepiece of the programme, and Radulović takes the lead on it.
That's paired with Albert Roussel's Symphony No. 3, which brings a different mood to the bill: its ominous undertones and intense atmosphere provide a sharp contrast to the Tchaikovsky. The rest of the evening is made up of two shorter, more colourful pieces. There's Stravinsky's Song of the Nightingale (Le chant du rossignol), a musical retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's story, and Paul Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, his take on Goethe's tale of a work-shy apprentice. Between the concerto, the symphony, and these two, it's a full programme that moves from the romantic to the atmospheric and the descriptive.
