Middle Ground Theatre Company presents Charles Dickens' ghostly thriller The Signalman, directed by Michael Lunney, with stunning set and video projections.
Middle Ground Theatre Company brings Charles Dickens' The Signalman to the Everyman Theatre from Tuesday 19 to Saturday 23 January 2027. It's a ghost story set in 1880, and the one Dickens wrote as a chilling piece of Victorian Gothic. The plot centres on a tormented signalman haunted by visions of impending disaster on his isolated stretch of line, and a well-meaning traveller who stumbles upon the lonely signal box and tries to calm him. Middle Ground has brought it to the stage with a stunning set and video projections, and critics have called it 'hauntingly brilliant', awarding it five out of five.
Chris Walker and John Burton take the lead roles, with James Morley, Bruce Chattan and Adam Bert in the supporting cast. Walker is best known for playing Rob Hollins in Doctors for fifteen years, and has appeared in Merseybeat, Playing the Field, The Bill and Coronation Street. Burton is best known as Sergeant Goodfellow in Father Brown. Michael Lunney directed and designed the production.
The Everyman, where it's staged, opened in 1866 as the Star Concert Hall and later welcomed Robert Donat, Noel Coward, Richard Burton and Anthony Hopkins. It's at 5-11 Hope St, L1 9BH, in the heart of the city.
