The Piccadilly Sinfonietta plays Vivaldi's Four Seasons with festive favourites, including Corelli's Christmas Concerto and Pachelbel's Canon in D, by candlelight.
The Piccadilly Sinfonietta bring Vivaldi's Four Seasons to St George's Hall on Friday 11 December, as part of their Christmas tour across the UK. The Liverpool date is presented by CityMusic Promotions Ltd, and the whole thing is played by candlelight.
The programme pairs Vivaldi's Four Seasons with a selection of festive favourites and classical masterpieces. Alongside the Vivaldi, you'll hear Corelli's Christmas Concerto, Pachelbel's Canon in D, Elgar's Nimrod, Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty Waltz and Strauss's Blue Danube. The Sinfonietta will be joined by a leading violin soloist, whose name is still to be announced.
For a bit of context on who they are: The Piccadilly Sinfonietta is one of the UK's most active young ensembles, giving more than 200 performances a year. They've built their following on sparkling interpretations of baroque, classical and early romantic repertoire, which Classic FM described as 'stunning'. This concert sits right in that wheelhouse, with the Four Seasons and the Christmas Concerto on the baroque end, and the waltzes and Elgar leaning into the romantic.
