A drama adapted from the Oscar-winning film, following the friendship between King George VI and his speech therapist Lionel Logue as he prepares for a historic radio address.
The King's Speech comes to the Playhouse at Everyman & Playhouse Theatres from Tuesday 22 to Saturday 26 June 2027. It's the Barn Theatre's stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning film, and it follows the same story: King George VI, known as Bertie, is a shy man with a debilitating speech impediment, and the unlikely friendship he forms with Lionel Logue, an unconventional speech therapist from Australia, as he prepares to deliver a historic radio address. It's a play about duty, courage and finding your voice, and it's the Barn Theatre bringing it to the Liverpool stage.
On stage, Stefan Dennis plays Lionel Logue and George Rainsford takes on King George VI. The production has picked up some good reviews along the way, with the Daily Telegraph calling it 'elegant, lucid and witty' and The Guardian describing it as 'a highly enjoyable play'. It runs for 2 hours 20 minutes including an interval, and it's recommended for ages 11 and up, so it's one that works as a family outing as much as a night out on your own.
