Interactive storytelling show for children and adults, led by a storyteller, based on a true story of migration.
The Jeweller's Daughter comes to Unity Theatre on Tuesday 27 October, a storytelling show for children and adults that's based on a true story of forced migration. It starts with a small island in the Indian Ocean called Zanzibar, a girl whose family were forced to leave, and the welcoming community they later found. Natasha the Storyteller leads the way, and it's an interactive one — she invites the audience to join in and learn together through games, colour, costumes, music and memories. The whole thing is about celebrating difference, bringing joy and encouraging people to learn about others' experiences.
It's not a sit-back-and-watch kind of show. The interactive side is a big part of it, with the games and costumes pulling the room into the story rather than just letting it happen on stage. It's designed for children and adults to experience together, so it works as a family outing as much as a standalone for anyone interested in storytelling. The project was initially made with support from Big Imaginations, Theatre Porto and Z-Arts.

There's a bit more to it than just the show itself. If you're keen, there's a crafting session beforehand starting at 1:30pm, so you can get stuck in with something to make before the main event kicks off. The performance runs for around 60 minutes, and it's on at 2pm, making it a proper afternoon thing. Tickets are £10 or £5, so it's an easy one to bring the kids along to.
