Lecture by RIBA curator Valeria Carullo marking the tenth anniversary of the Colin Rowe Lectures, with a guided tour of the accompanying exhibition at RIBA North.
The Colin Rowe Lectures mark their tenth anniversary on Saturday 31 October, with a talk and a guided tour that take you across two different parts of the city. The lecture runs from 3pm to 4pm at the Budden Lecture Theatre in the University of Liverpool School of Architecture on Bedford Street North, and the tour follows from 4.45pm to 5.15pm over at RIBA North on Mann Island.
RIBA curator Valeria Carullo gives the lecture, which is introduced by Dr Marco Iuliano. The talk is built around the exhibition Wide Angle View: Architecture as Social Space in the Manplan Series 1969-70, and the tour is a guided walk through that same show. The exhibition itself brings together more than 80 original photographs that captured social issues in the late 1960s, and it's showing at RIBA North until 1 November, so this is one of the last chances to see it.
The Colin Rowe Lectures are a collaboration between the Centre for Architecture and the Visual Arts at the University of Liverpool and the Royal Institute of British Architects. Since 2016, the series has looked at the image of architecture through talks and conversations with theorists and photographers, with names like Richard Pare, Hélène Binet, Claire Zimmerman, Juhani Pallasmaa and Kenneth Frampton all taking a turn. This year's lecture is held at the new University of Liverpool School of Architecture, designed by O'Donnell + Tuomey.
