Squeeze bring their Tried, Tested & Trixies Tour to the M&S Bank Arena, with very special guest Billy Bragg.
Squeeze are playing the M&S Bank Arena on Saturday 21 November, with Billy Bragg as special guest. It's part of their Tried, Tested & Trixies Tour, and it's the first time they've brought the run to Liverpool.
For those who know the name but not the history, Squeeze formed in South London in 1973 when Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook first started writing together. The partnership earned them the nickname 'The New Lennon and McCartney' early on. They did things the old-fashioned way, starting with an ad in a window, and their 1979 album Cool For Cats brought songs like 'Up The Junction', 'Another Nail In My Heart' and 'Pulling Mussels (From The Shell)'. In 1981, East Side Story — produced by Elvis Costello and Roger Bechirian — gave us 'Tempted' and 'Labelled With Love'. After a turbulent period, the duo reformed the band in 2007 and have played more than 600 shows since, with a 50th-anniversary tour in 2024 drawing huge acclaim.
Trixies, released on 6 March 2026, is their first album of new material in eight years and 53 years in the making. The songs were written when Difford and Tilbrook were teenagers, rediscovered on a long-lost cassette and produced by bassist Owen Biddle. It's a strange way for a record to come together — songs from half a century ago finally seeing the light of day — and it's what the tour is built around. The band also continue to support the anti-poverty charity Trussell, and £1 from every ticket goes to grassroots music venues.
