An evening of 1960s classics performed by the Sounds of the 60s All Star Band and Singers, hosted by 60s music authority Tony Blackburn.
Sounds Of The 60s Live comes to the Liverpool Empire on Thursday 12 November, hosted by Tony Blackburn OBE. It's an evening of 60s classics performed by the Sounds Of The 60s All Star Band and Singers, with Blackburn on the mic throughout.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, the history might. Blackburn is a 60s music authority who got his start at the pirate stations Radio Caroline and Radio London before becoming the first-ever DJ on BBC Radio 1 and later hosting BBC Radio 2. He's presented Sounds of the 60s on Radio 2 since 2017 and still runs the show live, which he says dates back to the sixties when skirts and cars were mini and radio was king. This year marks the 60th anniversary of his first broadcast on pirate radio station Radio Caroline South in 1964.
Beyond the radio, he's a champion of soul music and has won 37 awards, including two Gold Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Radio — the first person to receive two of those lifetime achievement honours. He was also the first King of the Jungle in the original series of ITV's I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here. Audience reviews describe him as funny, energetic and full of 60s nostalgia.
