Musical show with a cast of Irish musicians celebrating the music and legacy of The Dubliners.
Seven Drunken Nights - The Story of The Dubliners comes to the Liverpool Empire on Sunday 11 April 2027, starting at 19:30. It's a tribute to The Dubliners, the folk group that spent more than half a century as one of Ireland's most recognisable musical exports.
The show follows their history from the beginning, starting in 1962 in a back room at O'Donoghue's Pub in Dublin. From there it traces their more than fifty years at the top, bringing back the stories of the men who made the band: Ronnie Drew, Luke Kelly, Barney McKenna, John Sheahan, Ciaran Bourke and Jim McCann. It's performed by a cast of Irish musicians in association with O'Donoghue's, and it leans on the songs most people know them by — Whiskey in the Jar, The Irish Rover and Rocky Road to Dublin — to carry the folk tradition onto the stage.
This isn't a new production, though it's returning with a brand new staging. It's played venues around the world, including a run in the West End, and the company is now marking its tenth anniversary, which they say has brought a decade of nights to packed-out theatres. The Liverpool date is part of a 2027 tour that takes in Torquay, Stockton-on-Tees, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester, Brighton, Woking and Folkestone.
