A bold and moving drag extravaganza about Lily Savage, the 'Blonde Bombsite', inspired by the life of Paul O'Grady and written by Jonathan Harvey.
Savage runs at the Everyman Theatre from Tuesday 16 to Saturday 20 March 2027, with Danny Beard taking the lead as Lily Savage. It's a new comedy about the 'Blonde Bombsite' herself, and it comes with a bit of a pedigree: it's inspired by the life of Paul O'Grady and created with his blessing. The script is by Jonathan Harvey, the multi-award-winning playwright behind Our Lady of Blundellsands, Canary, Coronation Street and Beautiful Thing.
Harvey's play follows O'Grady's journey from the streets of Merseyside to London's club scene, where he built his fearless alter ego. It's billed as a bold and moving drag extravaganza that pairs razor-sharp wit with unexpected tenderness, so it's as much about the man behind the makeup as it is about the character. The production had its world premiere at Curve Leicester earlier in 2027 before heading to London's West End, and this Liverpool run brings it back to the region where the whole thing started.
