Indian classical evening of sitar and tabla by Roopa Panesar and tabla maestro Kousic Sen at The Tung Auditorium.
Roopa Panesar and Kousic Sen play The Tung Auditorium on Friday 27 November, a sitar and tabla duo presented by Milap in association with the Asian Arts Agency. Panesar takes the lead on sitar, and Sen accompanies her on tabla, and the two have a long history together: Sen played on her 2011 debut album, Khoj, which Milap produced.
Panesar is one of the finest sitar players to emerge from the UK, a disciple of Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE. Her music ranges from traditional Indian classical ragas to contemporary collaborations that draw on jazz and Western classical influences, and she's a leading light of the British Asian diaspora. She's played major venues including London's Barbican, the Darbar Festival and New York City's APAP, and her album ATMA (The Soul) was recorded at Real World Studios. Joining her is tabla maestro Kousic Sen, Milap's Artist in Residence and one of the world's most sought-after accompanists.
