A multimedia theatre piece exploring love and memory, merging live performance and film, with integrated captioning.
Remember Romeo runs at the Everyman Theatre from Wednesday 10 to Saturday 13 March 2027, a co-production between imitating the dog and The Dukes, supported by Lancaster Arts. It's a reimagining of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, but instead of the young lovers we know, it brings together two older actors and former partners who haven't seen each other in fifty years. She's living with memory loss; he carries the memories she's struggling to hold. The two of them on stage, fifty years after they first played the roles, is where the whole thing starts.
Around them, a lost 1960s television version of the play flickers back to life on the walls, starring the couple as their younger selves. The live performance and the film merge, so you're watching the two of them in the present while their younger versions play out the story on the walls. It's billed as an ode to the experience of first and last love, and The Times called it a 'multimedia daredevil'.
